Tony Masters is a homosexual inmate portrayed by Steve Wishnoff.
Tony Masters, prisoner 98M922 was sent to Emerald City in 1998, when it reopened after 1997 riot. As the leader of the prison's gay population, Masters is almost always seen with fellow gay inmates Fiona Zonioni (his cell mate), Pinkerton and Downing. Also, Masters was a friend of Jason Cramer and was his corner man in the boxing episodes.
When Alonzo Torquemada came to Oz in Season 6, Masters became infatuated with him. When the series ended, Masters was handcuffed to Torquemada and they were evacuated from the prison together.
Masters was one of the 4 Gay inmates along with Richie Hanlon, Fiona Zonioni and Downing allowed back in Em City 10 Months later after the riot, until Richie Hanlon is down the hole for murdering 2 Inmates which he only killed one, Pinkerton lives in Emerald City, Masters and the other gay inmates are usually bullied by Homeboy Leader Simon Adebisi. The have no specific allegiance but are sometimes seen furthering plots for others.
Masters is the corner man in the boxing matches. He supports Jason Cramer.
Season 4 Part I
Masters along with Downing & Fiona Zonioni are transferred to Unit B when Martin Querns takes over. In the Season 4 part I finale "You Bet Your Life", the trio filmed a sequence in the box behind Augustus Hill dressed as Vegas Showgirls doing a fan dance.
Season 4 Part II
Masters, Downing and Zonioni are let back in Em City. In episode "The Blizzard of '01" Masters made a play for Beecher that was rebuked (the sequence never aired).
Masters is the prison pianist and plays piano for Suzanne Fitzgerald coaches Omar White for his solo in episode 6, "Variety". He is seen with his cell mate Fiona Zonioni at the time Fiona read Agamemnon Busmalis's letter for him
Masters is no longer leading The Gays when Latino inmate Alonzo Torquemada takes over, Masters and Torquemada are together at the Macbeth show and they are also handcuffed together sitting on the coach when everyone had to evactuate out of Oswald State Correctional Facility when Chris Keller had a anthrax bomb smuggled in that killed 6 Aryan inmates.
