Character summary[]
He appears in only one episode in season 1 where he dies defending Warden Leo Glynn from inmate Donald Groves. Groves attempted to kill Glynn as he wanted to appease Muslim inmate Kareem Saïd. The death of Smith angers several correctional officers especially Eddie Hunt who use his death as an opportunity to assault and injure several inmates for no apparent reason. As more inmates go to the hospital, Glynn suspends several COs temporarily. Groves shortly afterwards gets the death penalty and chooses to die by firing squad, which Hunt volunteers to be a part of.
